KM - Tokyo Waterfront Redevelopment
Re-zoning of the Tokyo waterfront district of Harumi and Southeast of Shiodome shows an effort to retain district social culture and history in one aspect, while introduce a new district program for the extension of the business region south from Shiodome. A master plan for the removal of the existing fish market Tsukiji allows for a 400-hectare area in the extended neighborhood to support three scales of office and commercial buildings. The focal point- a waterfront cultural anchor including Tokyo’s first international art museum and research hub will ground the district development, provide new life to the waterfront edges, and transform the neighborhoods to an international level.
